I wonder (extinction)

I wonder, with all the gazillions of theories towards extinction, if the end of many animals was due to the season changes we are seeing now.
I'm not a scientist, biologist or have any knowledge whatsoever in the topic, but like many times when I get a random thought I like to write it down somewhere...
In the newspaper they were reporting that winter was running late and that the spring like weather was causing many plants and animals to go into their spring rituals, and that this could be a big problem for them as the winter would eventually come and wipe out all the eggs, babies and that many animals would not be ready to hibernate... Anyway, what if this did happen a long time ago, where sporadic weather lead to animals continuously preparing for what they assumed what spring only to have winter swoop down and take over, not allowing the animals to fully recover enough, not something as extreme as an ice age or meteor nor as impressive but its a thought.
That the weather was so unstable it made many animals unable to cope as they relied on specific weather patterns, and like many things that work in a cycle the weather is starting to repeat itself gradually...

Don't pay any attention to me, it's just a thought in a ocean of opinions...
